I was sleeping in a guest room at a friend's house. There was a crack of light as the bedroom door opened slightly, and then a heavy bounce as a large calico cat jumped up beside me. She gave me barely a glance and then the bed bounced again as she jumped up onto the dresser and stared out the window at the moonlit field, waiting for morning.
