The One

That day, when I was there by that one tree, the air was full. Leaves had started to fall, unhurried to the ground while dragonflies swept through the sky, crystalline wings flashing in the sun, their bodies glittering streaks of blue and green. Among them, a single perfect maple seed drifted down, spiraling above me until it came to rest on my open palm. Of all the days, all the forests, trees and seeds, I was right there, right then to reach out and have that one.
