At the edge of garden, nearest to the woods, there grew a small field of poppies. There were hoof prints in the ground where deer had come out of the trees to inspect the garden. I sat in the grass there, looking at a radiant sunset behind the silhouette of poppy seed heads, like magic wands creating spells.
Archival giclee print.
